Courses with a difference

Computing music

Alongside more traditional courses, we offer a BMus/BSc with Computing, courses with Psychology and Theatre, and MA Pathways in CCE and Arts Administration.

We encourage an atmosphere of open-minded debate and a commitment to all types of music from classical to jazz and pop.

Diversity

Sparkling, refracted light

The Department of Music is committed to diversity and equality.

Rose Dagul, our Diversity and Representation Liaison, leads the effort to decolonise and diversify our degree programmes, alongside the joint heads of department. We have formed various smaller working groups looking at the content of specific modules and at the membership and repertoire of our music ensembles, as well as examining the broader teaching methods and educational aims of our curriculum, specifically in terms of these questions of representation and diversity.

Living in London

London view

Living here you can enjoy and participate in the city’s international, thriving music scene. Students also benefit from our associations with local organisations such as the South Bank Centre, and the Horniman Museum, whilst the University of London offers access to the resources of companion organisations, such as the Institute of Musical Research.

Alumni

Our alumni play leading roles in the music industry and other creative fields.

Ours is a hugely varied department, and former students have equally diverse lives - from classical musicians and Mercury Prize-winning pop stars, to lawyers, academics and administrators.

Your future

Fish tank man

Our courses prepare you for music professions across education, the arts sector and creative industries - but not just in music. Employers look for initiative-driven graduates who think critically about their actions, work with others well and adapt quickly to new ideas.

Our degrees help you achieve all that, sometimes without you noticing!
