Goldsmiths is one of the UK's leading universities for social work education.

Primary page content

Our programmes will equip you with the knowledge, values and skills required to practise as a reflective and ethical social worker. We work with employer stakeholder partners to provide practice-learning opportunities that will offer invaluable real-world experience.

Each of our social work programmes is designed to prepare you by recognising the following:

  • The unique contribution that all students bring to the programmes in terms of their qualities and experiences
  • Training builds on the uniqueness of each person by facilitating their exploration of the values, knowledge base and skills of social work practice
  • It is the student's responsibility not only to develop their understanding of the framework of social work practice but also to demonstrate skills, knowledge and values in this area

Teaching

Our teaching is characterised by a solid commitment to social justice and anti-oppressive principles, and, as such, we strive to cultivate an inclusive learning environment.

In study groups, you are actively encouraged to explore and manage social work practice's tensions, ambiguities, and uncertainties. By utilising an action and reflective learning approach, we seek to bridge the gap between theory and practice, facilitating your critical thinking.

Our teaching staff is actively engaged in research, and we aim to provide a stimulating research-led teaching and learning environment.

Where your degree can take you

Our social work programmes are highly regarded by potential employers within London and further afield, and our graduates have an excellent record of securing employment – they've gone on to work in local authority children's services departments, adult services departments, and independent sector and voluntary sector agencies such as the NSPCC, Family Action and Mind.
